The tip holder allows you to sharpen the small tips and cutters used by the hollowing tools.
This eliminates burnt or ground fingers from trying to hold the cutters close to the gringing wheel.
Mount the cutters onto the tip holder and sit the holder flat on your grinder platform the andjust the angel to suit the cutter and sharpen easily.
Remember you are only trying to sharpen the cutter so use a fine wheel and a very light touch. The Robert Sorby Pro-Edge or Tormek sharpening system does wonders for these cutters.
